Tuna & Egg Strata│Lunch

Bourjorno!

The month of January went by so fast! Wow! One moment its new year's the next it's almost February. Well, so far this year has been good to me. I have become more outgoing and welcoming to others, and have adapted to Quebec (it honestly has not been easy). I have started to cook more meals, I am still baking but I am focusing on learning more types of foods besides the ones the I already eat/know. You know trying to expand my horizons * sigh*

This recipe is easy to make and though it has tuna it doesn't taste fishy at all. As a person that does not like to eat fish except tuna, this is ideal for me. I have nothing against fish but that fear that I will choke on a fish bone and die (I once saw it in a telenovela when I was 8) keeps me from consuming seafowl.
I have made it two ways and so I included how to make it on the stovetop and in an oven. I personally prefer making on the stovetop because it takes less time because I do not have to preheat the oven (I know lazy of me).
I experiment with this recipe and was proud of how it turned out. I made it for lunch and my family tried it and enjoyed it except my brother. *sigh* Brothers.
The strata is a great choice for brunches, lunches, parties and picnics.

Tuna with Egg Mixture Strata Recipe

Makes 4 sandwiches
About 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 8 bread slices
  • Canned tuna, drained and flaked- 170g
  • 1/2 cup of Tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon (or pinch) of Powdered Cloves
  • 1 large egg (more if wished)
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • A small pinch of pepper
  • A pinch of condiment powder of choice.

Recipe

Stovetop
  1. Drop 1/3 cup of butter in a big (one that can hold 4 pieces of bread) cooking pan turn on to medium heat. When melted add 4 slices of bread, let it cook/toast for 5 minutes.
  2. On low-medium heat add the tuna to the bread. Over the tuna spoon on the tomato sauce mixture on the tuna and bread. Cover with the remaining 4 bread slices.
  3. Beat egg in a mixing bowl until frothy add milk, salt, pepper and condiment of choice. Pour over all. Let some spill on the bottom. Cook on medium for 5 minutes, then flip the sandwich. Cook until the egg mixture is cooked, or the sandwiches are browned/ golden.
  4. Serve and enjoy.
Oven
  1. Preheat oven to 350℉ (175℃ for my fellow Canadians).
  2. In a small bowl mix in the tomato sauce, sugar and powdered cloves. Mix well set aside.
  3. In a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan arrange 4 bread slices. Add the tuna to evenly on the bread. Over the tuna distribute the tomato sauce mixture on the tuna and bread. Cover with the remaining 4 bread slices.
  4. Beat egg in a mixing bowl until frothy add milk, salt, pepper and condiment of choice. Pour over all. If wished let some be spilt on the bottom of the pan so both sides are covered in egg mixture. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the sandwiches are browned/ golden.
  5. Voila!
*Note: The condiments and powdered cloves can be changed to your preference, I know that sometimes it seems pointless to buy a whole bottle of powdered cloves for 1 teaspoon. Work with what you have and make it yours.
I do not cut the crust of my bread but if you don't like the crust go for it.

I really wish you enjoy this Tuna & Eggs Strata. If you made any modifications let me know in the comments below. Do you have anyone in your family that is a picky eater? Or just won't eat any fish products?
Have a great weekend
