Pistachio Pudding Trifle | Dessert

Monday, March 5, 2018
So this past week my family was hit with the flu and oh my!
I missed school, had a fever and *sigh* that was not fun. So after everyone got better I decided to 'celebrate' by making a cake. I had a set of mixes and ideas, things that I wanted to do but didn't know how.
And then I came up with: Pistachio Pudding Trifle.

This is a very straightforward recipe everything that is needed comes in a box. The cake mix, pudding, and even the whipping cream come in box mixes ready to add whatever it is needed to make it. The pistachio pudding trifle can be made in about an hour and can be refrigerated up to a day beforehand.
Here in Quebec, there is a store chain called Adonis, and their cakes are *sigh* d e l i c i o u s. I do not mean to brag (I actually don't)  but this trifle reminded me of those cakes. For the person that doesn't like pistachio can replace it with whatever pudding preferred or what you have on hand (butterscotch, chocolate etc).

Let's get on with the show.

Pistachio Pudding Trifle

Ingredients:

  • 1 cake box mix ( I used vanilla)
  • replace oil with butter, add milk
  • 1 or more pistachio pudding box
  • 1 or more Dream Whip mix scratches
  • OR whipping cream
  • About 4 cups of milk overall for the mixes.
  • Optional: Toppings

Recipe

  1. Butter/oil up a baking pan and preheat the oven to 350℉
    • The pan should preferably be a rectangle shape, but it doesn't make too big of a difference.
  2. Make the cake as directed in the box, while replacing the oil with butter and adding milk instead of water. Add to pan fill about half-way. Bake for about 35-40 minutes until golden.
  3. While the cake is baking, in a mixing bowl add the milk and pistachio pudding mix. Mix as directed on package.
  4. After the cake is out of the oven to cut it into small squares or rectangles and let cool.
  5. In the trifle bowl put in a layer of cake. Making sure there are no holes.
  6. Add a layer of pistachio pudding, about 1/4 inch or so. Repeat with cake, then pudding again.
    • I did 3 layers of cake, 2 of pistachio pudding, not to waste cake.
  7. In another bowl mix in the Dream Whip mix and milk. Mix until it is fluffy. Add on top of the cake or pistachio layer.
  8. Put it in the fridge for a 1 hour or 2 before consumption so it will be cool.
  9. Enjoy
*Note* There can be many different variations depending on the cake (chocolate, vanilla, etc) and the pudding (butterscotch, pistachio and so on).

I hope this was as simple and easy as it was for me. It really cuts time the fact that everything comes in a box (or sachet) and only needs milk.

Do you have any more suggestions? Did you enjoy it? What do you hope to see in the future?

Til next time
