Hand Made Presents

Hi guys
How was your Christmas? Since it was our first Christmas in a new province, it was quite different. On Christmas eve we went to a friends house and were there til 3am! I was so tired at that point that it took everything just to keep my eyes open and not fall asleep.
So on Christmas day we didn't get up and open our gifts til 12pm. Although this year was different, we still have the family together, unlike last year where my dad was away.
Like I promised in this post, I will now post what I made for my family this Christmas. Like I said before for my dad I made a small tote for his Bible. He was happy about that.

For my mom, I ended up making a small crossbody bag, with I pattern I designed by myself. It was confusing and hard but it was worth it when I saw my mother's smile. For her, I also knit her a headband for the cold. And the little blue wallet showed next to a bowl of cookies.
For my brother I knitted him a simple scarf, well not that simple for the scarf would not lay flat, it still rolls up. *sigh*
Turns out that I was the big gift giver this year for I gave the most things to other compared to most years. It wasn't a big trouble considering I had the time and material. There were moments of frustration and near tears but it was a well worth it just to see their smiles on their faces.
I will update as I am able to take pics of the projects.

I can not believe time went so fast. It feels like yesterday it was October. Now that the holidays are getting closer, I have been baking and preparing for Christmas and New Years.
Today I have another recipe for you: Colombian Natilla. The classic holiday recipe that is made by Colombians wherever they may be.

2017 Accomplishments

Hi guys!
I can not believe its 13 days til Christmas!!! (eek, where did time go?) Now that the year is closing up, I want to look back on the past 12 months and what happened in my life.

Accomplishments in 2017

  • This year in AB Skills Competition I made it to provincials after winning regionals. It was five hours away but I had a great time. My friends were in different categories while I was the one in Fashion Technology, feeling unprepared and terrified. Though I didn't win, I did enjoy myself and am proud of the fact that I was able to almost finish (pattern drafting, cutting, sewing)  a trenchcoat jacket in 12 hours! I learned how to manage my time and not to let a minor thing stop me from moving forward.
  • In 2017 I got my high school diploma! After 4 years of hard work, stress, and tears I graduated and got to wear a fancy dress. I'm done, yay!
  • Though it isn't anything exciting, I am proud of the fact that I have become more independent. I do volunteer work, I go out in the city all by myself in public transportation. 

Regrets?

The only regrets I have is not fully learning Portuguese and Russian. It's not that I didn't have time, it just was that I had "better" things todo. I regret not doing better in school, even though I had a hard time. But that is all in the past now, now I have to look towards the future.

2018 plans

My plans for 2018 revolve around school. I hope to be accepted into university, and be able to start my undergrad. I hope to do well in French, now that I'm going to French classes. Maybe win the lottery???  I just hope that 2018 will be the year that I outdo myself and become someone my parents are proud of.

My time is almost up, so I want to know:  what are your accomplishment this year? was it anything special or something simple? Any regrets? what are your plans for the future?

Thinking of Making a Logo

Allo!
One of the goals that I have is to make a logo for my blog. Hopefully, I will finish it by the end of December to mid-Jan. For those who do not know that title of the blog is a take on two things, I love sugar (sweets and baking) and plaid (tartan and sewing). So I will try my best to incorporate that into the logo. 
I am also thinking of changing the blog colour scheme I feel like it is too bold, no I mean strong and generic. 
What do you guys think?

Life Lesson Learned

The big life lesson I learned in 2017 was: Gratitude.
To be grateful in whichever situation I happen to find myself in. 2017 was full of moments (hours, days, months)where I was in unusual situations where I would have preferred
not to be in the first place. It was difficult but I knew that it could always be much, much worse.

Gratefulness- the lesson I learned in 2017.

Here are a couple that happened this year:

  • Less than a week before the Grand March (prom in AB) the zipper in my dress broke. Now that I look back and think about those days and I think to myself: wow, how foolish to be worrying about something so insignificant. It seemed like a big deal for I was to walk in front of 1000+ people. In the end, I had to hand sew an invisible zipper, but now I have experience (lol).
  • Days before Canada Day we finished packing and set ourselves on our way to Quebec. It was hard for everyone especially for me. Leave behind everything we knew to go to a strange 'foreign' place. Now I think that it could have been much worse, we could've moved to another country or lost all our things in the move. I am grateful that we had a place to arrive (even though we felt a bit unwelcomed) and we spoke English which meant we could communicate still.
  • In November on my way to Brockville, I had an anxiety attack and could not breathe, the paramedics were called and I was let go (thankfully no hospital visit). Now that contemplate this past event I am grateful that I did not pass out from my lack of oxygen. Grateful that the paramedics were so kind and nonjudgemental about my situation.

Overall this year I learned to be grateful for it could always be much more severe. Being grateful takes away the worries and helplessness that come in certain situations. Gratitude helps you learn to be content in whatever situation might arise from hardship.

Candy Cane Sugar Cookies

Bonjour guys!
In my last post, I told you about a batch of cookies I made and fell positively in love with. I call it: Candy Cane Sugar Cookies, I originally found a basic simple recipe, made a couple of changes and added a Christmas twist. These are sweet but it is not overpowering, and the candy gives it a minty sweet surprise when bitten into.

What I've done so far

Hi there
I'm Loren, I don't know about you, but here where I live there is not a drop of snow on the ground, in fact, it's raining! I can not believe that its a month before Christmas and nothing. This is hard for me because last year before the 'big move' the first snowfall had been in September! Either way, Christmas is just a couple of weeks away and this year I am semi-prepared (yay me!)

Christmastime is my favorite time of the year for many, many reasons some of them being that I can sing Christmas carols and bake! Right now I am totally obsessed with a cookie recipe I found with a Christmas spin. It' sooo good and easy to make. I'll post the recipe later. The only thing I did differently was that I added some cinnamon and in another batch, I added lots of crushed candy cane. The cookies came out green and red, so Christmasy.
